Communications Program Glossary.

Hi, my name is Carl. I am in the Communications Program in a CEGEP. CEGEP is a College of General and Professional Teaching. Every student in Quebec need a diploma in a CEGEP to go in University or directly go to work.

A task or piece of work assigned to someone as part of a job or course of study.
Example: A reporting assignment.

A title or brief explanation appended to an article, illustration, cartoon, or poster.
Example: There are huge posters everywhere showing the image of a face, with the CAPTION.

A single specimen of a particular book, record, or other publication or issue.
Example: Publish on each COPY an appropriate copyright notice' and under section.

tabloid
noun
A newspaper having pages half the size of those of a standard newspaper, typically popular in style and dominated by headlines, photographs, and sensational stories.
Example: Articles from both TABLOID and broadsheet newspapers will make up two small Corpora which will then be analysed independently in order to draw a comparison between the two genres.

teleprompter

A device used to project a speaker's script onto a transparent panel in front of a television camera lens in such a way that the text remains hidden from the camera.
Example: He did not even need to look at his teleprompter to work that out.

A lead is an opening paragraph that gives the audience the most important information of the news story in a concise and clear manner, while still maintaining the readers' interest.
Example: A summary lead is the most common and traditional lead in journalism.

A heading at the top of an article or page in a newspaper or magazine.
Example: For example, one newspaper reported the HEADLINE "A healthy lifestyle might be the death of you" out of the academic debate about the link between cholesterol and cardio-vascular diseases.

A meeting of people face to face, especially for consultation.
Example: Whilst an over structured INTERVIEW can mean people do not feel free to disclose information.

A newspaper or magazine article or a broadcast program devoted to the treatment of a particular topic, typically at length.
Example: A feature on Detroit's downtown fishery.

A person who is in charge of and determines the final content of a text, particularly a newspaper or magazine.
Example: The increased involvement of the publishing house in creating the text itself as a marketable, profitable commodity removes the central power of the author and moves towards intertextuality , EDITOR, marketer and so on all involved in 'writing' the text.
